We Are Common – Andrew Hammerstein

Welcome to “We are Common”, our series where we showcase members of the Lansing Common community. In this feature, we introduce you to Andrew Hammerstein.

How long have you lived in the Lansing area, and what do you enjoy most about it?

I’ve lived in Mason for 5 years now. I love the Lansing community growing. It’s nice to walk downtown or in Old Town. It’s an amazing city. The culture is vibrant and there’s tons to do! It’s wonderful to see all the changes and how much the city has grown in the past couple years alone.

What was the moment or team that got you invested in Lansing soccer?

Seeing Lansing having a team truly about the community. There is something special about being part of an organization that is grass roots. Every voice has a say and every person can take ownership in the club.

What made you want to become a member of Lansing Common FC and what do you view as your role with the club as a member?

I want to cheer for a local team that has the spirit of the community flowing through it. A team that takes the ideals and values from the community and runs with it is an amazing thing to be a part of. Also, it’s great to say “I was a fan before they won all those titles”! I believe a member’s role is to support the team however they can. Attending games, repping the kit, and being a proud supporter of the organization.

What is something important that the team needs to do to be as successful as we want it to be?

A voice from the community. Too many teams overlook the most important part of the organization, which is the fans. A team doesn’t exist without the fans, and actively listening to their opinions and thoughts about the organization can ensure success for many years to come.

Where do you see Lansing Common FC in 5 years?

Hopefully growing into a larger club with a solid foundation of supporters to give them room to grow. Eventually growing into an MLS club maybe! But that is far off and starts right here on our doorstep with having an amazing group of fans and an excellent culture.

We Are Common – Patrick Jacobs

Welcome to “We are Common”, our series where we showcase members of the Lansing Common community. In this feature, we introduce you to Patrick Jacobs.

How long have you lived in the Lansing area, and what do you enjoy most about it?

I’ve lived in Lansing for just over a year and I lived in Grand Ledge for 32 years before that. What I enjoy the most about Lansing is the whole atmosphere of Lansing itself. Whether I’m in Old Town, or downtown, to Delta Township, or anywhere in the city there’s always something to do and always wonderful people to meet. Lansing never disappoints when looking for things to do even if you been around the city all your life.

What was the moment or team that got you invested in Lansing soccer?

Lansing United and the Lansing Ignite are what got me really invested in soccer especially at the supporter level and wanting to really make soccer games a very vibrant and exciting event to be at. It’s also the greatest way to meet everyone from all over the area joining to cheer on our team.

What made you want to become a member of Lansing Common FC and what do you view as your role with the club as a member?

I wanted to be apart of the history of restoring Lansing soccer and making people know that the sport never left this city. I was highly invested in supporting Lansing Ignite and I want to bring that same investment and enthusiasm to Lansing Common so becoming a member was a simple decision. As a member, I wanna make sure everyone that isn’t from Lansing knows what Lansing Common is by supporting the club at every moment that I can.

What is something important that the team needs to do to be as successful as we want it to be?

Being a very competitive team on the field that will play from start to finish and representing Lansing proudly win, lose, or draw. Off the field, giving back to the community as much as possible and helping teach youth players at camps or having youth players attending Lansing Common training sessions and see what it’s like to practice at that level.

Where do you see Lansing Common FC in 5 years?

In five years I see Lansing Common FC becoming a bigger and better part of Lansing. I see Lansing Common being a very successful team on and off the field and really showing that Lansing is a soccer hotbed that will be constantly competing for titles every year.

We Are Common – AJ Badge

Welcome to “We are Common”, our series where we showcase members of the Lansing Common community. In this feature, we introduce you to AJ Badge.

How long have you lived in the Lansing area, and what do you enjoy most about it?

Born and raised, so just under 4 decades. I love the “big city” feel in a small-town setting. I can always find something to do. Great local bars and restaurants as well as a multitude of parks and sights to see. Lansing is home.

What was the moment or team that got you invested in Lansing soccer?

I started following United the moment they were announced. I remember attending the first game. I was sitting in the middle bleachers at Archer with a friend of mine and my oldest son. To the right of us were the Sons of Ransom. They were loud. Singing, chanting, and drumming. I turned to my son and said ” those guys know how to do it. I need to be there. ” From the second game on, I was always in the supporters’ section.

What made you want to become a member of Lansing Common FC and what do you view as your role with the club as a member?

Everything. I love being a part of something bigger than myself. It gives me a place to meet with friends. It gives me a platform to yell, chant, and sing for my club. And that right there is my role with the club, to stand and yell for 90 minutes. To support our club and push the players to victory.

What is something important that the team needs to do to be as successful as we want it to be?

People. Not just fair-weather fans or diehard supporters, but getting people to know the name. Being able to talk about LCFC anywhere, and have people know about it. From radio shows or podcasts to barbershop or supermarket discussions of how the squad has been doing, directions they should be going, or even past great moments…… Sweet merch also helps.

Where do you see Lansing Common FC in 5 years?

Competing at a high level. Whether that be in our current league or another. I would rather build a great product (on and off the field) slowly, than try and go big to quickly.
