Community Soccer Kickoff

On May 7, Lansing Common FC will host an open training session and Celebrity Scrimmage featuring Lansing Common players and a number of special guests, with proceeds being donated to the Mikey23 Foundation!

Saturday, May 7 was supposed to be the season opener for Lansing Common FC, but when their opponent had to withdraw due to player availability issues, the team shifted gears, turning a possibly frustrating situation into an opportunity for a positive impact in the community.

Instead of a friendly against Ann Arbor FC, the team will be hosting a Celebrity Soccer Scrimmage as part of a fun-filled evening. Admission to the event will be free, but the club will be collecting donations for the Mikey23 Foundation, which works to improve the lives of young people through innovative education and training in the area of skilled trades.

“We’re thrilled to be able to turn a potentially frustrating situation into a chance to give back to our community,” said Lansing Common President Eric Walcott. “We can’t wait to introduce this year’s team to our fans, celebrate the beginning of our season with some special guests, and raise money for an amazing organization doing truly transformational work in Lansing.”

Special guests tomorrow will include Lansing Mayor Andy Schor, Lansing State Journal Reporter Phil Friend, Erica Murphy of Fox 47, Ian Kress from WLNS, and more! Members of the media are welcome to reach out if they wish to play in the event.

The evening will include Lansing Common training beginning at 6pm, a scrimmage between Lansing Common players at 7pm, and be headlined by the Celebrity Scrimmage at 7:30pm. The scrimmage will feature Lansing Common players alongside special guests. All events are open to the public.

Following the scrimmage, fans will have an opportunity to participate in some on-field activities and meet the 2022 Lansing Common team.
