Lansing Common FC Announces First Player Signings

We’re excited to take the next step towards making the dream of community-owned soccer in Lansing a reality, by announcing our first four player signings for the 2021 season. These four all come from the Lansing area and form the beginnings of coach Josh Oakley’s squad that will compete in the Midwest Premier League beginning in May.

Today we’re excited to announce the signings of Julian Birge, Zac Kelly, Leutrim Shefkiu, and Lirim Shefkiu.

“This is a great way to start with the introduction of players to our club. These four are so unique as one has been playing semi-professionally for years, two are currently in college competing, and the other has yet to enter college,” said Head Coach Josh Oakley. “Julian will be one of our most senior players, and the young guys that will be making their way to our club will love training/playing, interacting, and learning from him. He is a true success story-a picture of what hard work and desire to improve truly looks like. He will offer so many things to our club.  Leui and Lirim are in the prime of their collegiate careers, and cannot wait to represent the city and club.  Their dedication to their craft is as undeniable as their talent, although both will offer different benefits to our group in midfield and up front. I am thrilled to continue to be able to work with both of them. Zac will spend this summer with us, and I am excited to have him backstopping our team. He can be a top goalkeeper in the years to come. He is in the beginning phase of what is sure to be a great collegiate career and beyond. What better way to start his next chapter than here at home!”

Check out the videos below to learn a bit about each of these plates and why they’re excited to play for Lansing Common this summer!
